BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION: Box tops from designated products (particularly General Mills) are collected and redeemed for school equipment. Volunteers are needed to help sort, count and package box tops before they are mailed to the manufacturer.
CULTURAL ARTS: Each year, PAC allocates money to be spent on student enrichment programs (e.g., music, dance, theater, etc.). As a Cultural Arts volunteer, you would be expected to meet with the principal and faculty to gather program suggestions, preview programs and make funding recommendations to the PAC. The committee is also responsible for booking performances—daytime hours are needed.
DOCENT: This is an art appreciation program, which exposes 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students to a different artist or theme each month. Volunteer docents gather once each month to preview the materials to be presented in the classrooms the next month. Docent team members then present these materials to students. Docents give a brief lesson and then show prints or slides. Docents help direct the children’s discussion of their observations and thoughts about the artworks. No prior art or teaching experience is necessary, training is provided for program volunteers. You can learn by assisting and observing other docents in the classroom. This is a great opportunity to be in your child’s classroom on a regular basis.
FIELD DAY: This is an annual event in June, which features fun and competitive events for all students.
FLOCKING: A fundraiser for 5th grade students and their families in which families can pay to have a flock of flamingos set up to decorate a fellow fifth-grader's lawn; the family "flocked" can then pay to have the flock removed. Volunteers are needed to coordinate who is flocked, set up, and then remove the flocks.
FRIENDSHIP DIRECTORY: The Friendship Directory is an online database which contains student names, addresses, phone numbers and parent names and email addresses, grouped by homeroom. Volunteers are needed to gather family information & orders, update computer files to reflect changes, maintain the database and submit the document for reproduction.
ICE CREAM SOCIAL: This is an event which takes place at the beginning of the school year. All OPR families are invited to OPR to socialize, play, and enjoy an ice cream treat! Volunteers are needed to coordinate the purchase and delivery of the ice cream from food services as well as coordinate volunteers to help serve the ice cream.
JUNIOR GREAT BOOKS: This is an advanced reading enrichment program beginning in the 2nd grade and is subsidized by the PAC.
KINDERGARTEN MEET & GREET: Kindergarteners and their families are invited to the OPR playground to get to know each other and their teachers just prior to the start of kindergarten. Volunteers are needed to purchase supplies and distribute them at the event.
SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING & MATH (STEM) NIGHTS: This is an event open to 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade students, one night per grade, in which families are invited to come and enjoy fun math games and activities for an evening with their OPR student. Volunteers are needed to coordinate each night.

MULCH DISTRIBUTION: Mulch is provided by the town of Walpole just prior to the start of school. Volunteers are needed to organize the distribution of mulch to various areas around the school.
MUMS SALE: Mums are sold at OPR's Open House in September. Volunteers are needed to coordinate the purchase and delivery of the plants and then staff the table at Open House.
OPR CLOTHING SALES: Volunteers are needed to contact potential vendors, select clothing for sale, set pricing with the PAC board, and organize the sale and distribution of clothing (through take-home fliers as well as staffing a table at OPR events).
PLANTINGS: Volunteers are needed to review and upkeep the plants at the front of the school and near the school sign by the street, weed, and replace plants as needed.
PLAYGROUND COMMITTEE: Interested parents assist in the upkeep and improvement of OPR playgrounds. As a volunteer, you could help in occasional clean up of playgrounds and/or fundraising for new equipment.
PHOTOGRAPHY FUNDRAISER: This fundraising event allows families a discounted sitting with a photographer in an outdoor, scenic area. Families are then provided photos to enjoy and distribute while earning money for OPR. Volunteers are needed to coordinate date, time, and location with the photographer as well as publicize the event to OPR families.
READING INCENTIVES: The OPR Reading Specialists organize a reading incentive program which encourages the students to read more than 100 minutes per week. Those students which meet this goal receive a small prize. In addition, the teachers in each grade level with the most minutes at the end of the program receive a gift card.
RESTAURANT NIGHT(S): Fundraising events at different restaurants for OPR families in which a portion of the revenue is given to OPR. Volunteers are needed to organize each event, which are held at different times throughout the school year.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR: Scholastic books are brought in for a book fair held during Parent/Teacher conferences in the Fall. The students browse the books during school hours to make a "wish list" that will assist the parents in their book selection. Teachers will also post "classroom book wish lists" at the request of the PAC. Volunteers are needed to coordinate the selection of books to be sold at the fair, setup/breakdown of book fair and sales of books at the Parent/Teacher conferences. All proceeds from the Book Fair are given directly to the OPR Media Center for the purchase of new books.
STAFF APPRECIATION LUNCHEON: This is an event sponsored by PAC to show our appreciation to the staff who dedicate themselves to working with our children each and every day. Volunteers are needed to solicit monetary donations or donations of food items for staff to enjoy in May, the month of Teacher Appreciation Day. Volunteers are needed to set up, serve, as well as clean up.
STAY ON THE HALF DAY: This is a PAC sponsored event/fundraiser which allows students to stay longer on half days for a small fee. Volunteers are needed to organize and supervise a multitude of activities including games in the gym/outdoors, a craft room, a movie in the Library, Legos, face/nail painting, and much more!
STOP & SHOP A+ REWARDS: A "no-fund" fundraiser in which OPR families can help support OPR simply by registering their Stop & Shop card to OPR's ID number. A percentage of the money received by Stop & Shop is then returned to OPR. Once you log in or create an account, ensure your savings is assigned to OPR! Go to your account in the upper right hand corner, select Rewards & Savings and make sure one of the two school spots is Old Post Road.
SUNSHINE COMMITTEE: This is a program supported by PAC with the goal of making the teachers' time at OPR more special and enjoyable. Volunteers are needed to bring in a baked good or treat approximately once per month, often coordinated with the seasons or holidays. This position also provides the welcome back breakfast for staff in september.
GIVING TUESDAY: TD Bank will make an annual contribution to your organization based on the activity of all participating members’ TD Bank accounts including checking, savings, money market, COD and retirement accounts. A volunteer is needed to provide information on the program to families in the Fall and answer any questions that the parents may have throughout the year.
UNDERSTANDING OUR DIFFERENCES: The disabilities awareness program is offered to students at OPR as an adjunctive learning experience. Through interactive activities and teaching segments, it exposes students to some of the aspects and experiences of those who live with physical differences, visual and hearing impairments, and alternative learning needs. It is a rewarding and enlightening program for the students and parent volunteers, who assist with the stations and are integral to the learning process.
WALPOLE DAY: This position involves showing OPR school presence at the town event. A table is set up and needs to be organized with information about the school and maybe a fun craft or game for kids to play when the visit the table.
